10 To Go! Will It Be Sundowns Or Pirates?

Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are in a battle for the Betway Premiership title.

There are 10 matches left for both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, but who has the tougher run in going into the final third of the campaign?

Both clubs are on 47 points in the Betway Premiership with the Buccaneers on top of the standings with goal difference. What makes the battle even more interesting is that both clubs have the same amount of home matches left and they are going to come up against the same teams in some instances.

In the final stages of the season, both sides are going to face Siwelele, Richards Bay, Stellenbosch, Durban City and Kaizer Chiefs.

Former Pirates and Sundowns attacker Tyren Arendse feels Sundowns’ experience could get them over the line, but their CAF Champions League campaign could have a say in whether or not they win a ninth straight league title.

“It’s very difficult to say, but looking at Sundowns, their experience in this situation might help them. They are going to play Champions League and hopefully they can go all the way to the final and it will be interesting to see what impact it has on the team. I think that might be the only stumbling block for Sundowns, if any. That is the only thing that might hamper Sundowns,” Arendse said to Soccer Laduma.

“It’s been a while since Pirates won the league. They are fighting, they are scoring goals, so goal difference might also play a role. With the Pirates football is playing, they can beat any team. It’s exciting times, especially for the neutrals. This is how it always should be, with two or three teams fighting for the league. But like I said, the Champions League might be the only thing that stands in Sundowns’ way.”
