Minnie Dlamini questions SIU intentions

Minnie Dlamini addressed the controversy with a blunt Instagram post. First, she shared an “Official Statement” and questioned the SIU’s approach.

“I have no idea why the SIU is trying to make me the face of this case,” she wrote. “I DID NOT steal any money,” she added. Then, she asked how she should know stolen funds paid for a booking.

The Booking She Describes

In her statement, Minnie said she felt “deeply disappointed” by the SIU’s public remarks. Next, she described a 2016 professional engagement.
She said organisers paid her R50,000 for services.

However, the event did not proceed, because it never took place. She called the deal a standard commercial booking.

Consequently, she said she could not reasonably know the source of organisers’ funds. She added, “I do not involve myself in unlawful activities”.
Still, she said she “categorically” rejects any narrative suggesting otherwise.

Repayment and a Sharp Rebuttal

Later, Minnie said investigators requested 2016 documents. Nevertheless, she said time made some records impossible to locate. So, she repaid the amount as a pragmatic decision. She insisted she paid back “not because I did anything wrong”.

Instead, she said R50,000 was not worth reputational harm to her name. Meanwhile, the SIU released a media statement dated 19 December 2025. It said she agreed to repay R50,000 received in 2016. It linked the payment to funds irregularly received from the Mshandukani Foundation NPO. It also connected the funds to an NLC grant meant for a 2016 Rio Olympics Roadshow.

Even so, Minnie said the SIU publicly singled her out across platforms. She wrote, “It is critical to be clear”. Then, she repeated, “I was a service provider booked for a job”. Finally, she said her rights remain fully reserved in this regard.
