‘Chiefs Must Own Up That They Made A Mistake’

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper William Shongwe has questioned Nkanyiso Shinga’s absence from the pitch so far in the 2025/26 campaign.

Since signing for Kaizer Chiefs from Portugal at the start of the current season, left back Nkanyiso Shinga has yet to play an official game at the club.

Former Amakhosi number one William “Cool Cat ” Shongwe believes that the management should come out clear if they made a mistake in signing the KZN-born defender.

Talking to Soccer Laduma, Shongwe said that there should be a better explanation on why Shinga, as well as Ethan Chislett, have not yet played an official game for Chiefs almost halfway into the season.

“I think there’s a reason. Though I don’t know. I am wondering also that you know what would be the reason? If he’s not fit enough, how do you expect him to be fit now if he hasn’t been fit for the past four months? And, not even on the bench, it’s like something is wrong with that signing somewhere.

“Maybe an injury that is not healing, but there’s no proper information that is coming out. To think that since we saw him in the pre-season, nothing has happened, there must be something wrong. They must just own up that they made a big mistake. He is not what they thought he was and release him. I am sure he is getting paid a lot of money while sitting idling,” Shongwe observed.

Asked about another new signing, Ethan Chislett, who is also yet to make his debut for Chiefs, the Eswatini-born Shongwe said that he feels it’s the same problem as Shinga is facing.

“Exactly, he’s the other one. No, for me, the management must make a good decision, then to say where it went wrong,” Shongwe said briefly.

Both Shinga and Chislett are yet to feature in an official game for Chiefs, though they played in the Toyota Cup against Asante Kotoko in the off-season international friendly.
