Downs Legend’s Verdict On Ouaddou’s Bucs Reign

Roger Feutmba verdict on the best foreign coach in the DStv Premiership

With Orlando Pirates in a fine run of form, former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Roger Feutmba has given his verdict on Abdeslam Ouaddou’s reign so far.

In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, the Cameroon-born legend commended the work of Marumo Gallants coach Alexandre Lafitte, Abdeslam Ouaddou, and Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso.

“The only thing I will say is that they are trying their best. I believe they are trying their best. I believe that uh, especially uh, the coach from Orlando Pirates. He still has to find his mark.

“Remember that he doesn’t really know the culture of South African football, the mentality of soccer players in South Africa. So, he needed to adapt to a new environment and understand the personnel you are working with to get better results out of them. So, they are trying their best,” Feutmba observed.

In addition, Feutmba pointed out that Miguel Cardoso has been at Chloorkop for at least two seasons now.

“Even Cardoso, even though we can say a lot. Because Cardoso is even different from the Pirates coach as he has been here for two good seasons.

“So, he’s supposed to know the environment, he’s supposed to know the culture, understand the culture of the players much better. So, you should take into consideration the fact that Sundowns is a team that is used to win, a team who used to dominate.

“You can say that is not what we have from him now. But football sometimes those things happen, especially remember when I said that things will be a little bit tougher this season because there are many new players coming into the picture. And they have to join together for a better result to come out. Now, because we used to win, because we have targets, Yeah. So, the pressure is mounting. So, yeah, you have a Pirates coach who starts very bad. Yeah, but he’s catching up. He’s catching up. He’s getting there, he’s adapting already.

“So, he understands already the culture of football in South Africa. He’s getting there. So, they are trying their best. Let’s hope that especially for my team.

Meanwhile, Feutmba added that it is difficult to judge the Marumo Gallants coach because of the squad that he has in comparison to the aforementioned duo of foreign coaches.

“Marumo Gallants’ manager role is not easy. Remember that as a coach, the quality of the personnel you have is very important. And the quality of the personnel you have is very important. So we don’t have to judge people. We have to make the right analysis. I believe all those coaches have a mandate And if they don’t fulfill that mandate,  those who put them in, I mean the management of the club have to decide what to do next.” Feutmba concluded.
