No January Move Planned for Downs Star

Kegan Johannes focused on Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Kegan Johannes’ future has been clarified by his agent, amid limited first-team action at the Tshwane giants this season.

Johannes has struggled for regular minutes since the start of the campaign, prompting speculation about a possible move away from Sundowns. However, his agent Glyn Binkin has provided an update on the 24-year-old’s situation, insisting that the player remains focused on fighting for his place at the club.

“There have been no discussions which we are aware of in terms of him going anywhere in January and I’m sure if there is any club that is interested they will contact myself and Sundowns in this regard. For now, Kegan (Johannes) is focused on Sundowns and no one else,” Binkin revealed to Soccer Laduma.

The former SuperSport United defender has found opportunities limited since joining Sundowns last season, with an injury also hampering his progress during his time at the club. In the current campaign, Johannes has made just three appearances in total — one in the Betway Premiership and two in the CAF Champions League.

Despite his lack of game time at club level, Johannes remains a player with international experience, having earned five senior Bafana Bafana caps, in addition to three appearances for the South African Under-23 side.

For now, the versatile defender appears committed to proving his value at Sundowns, with his camp playing down any talk of a potential January move.
