Mokwena was speaking after his team’s win against Najm Ben Aknoun in the Algerian Cup to advance to the quarter-finals.
It extended his record to 14 wins in 23 games as Mouloudia boss, and the South African was ecstatic with the way his team performed, Ennahar Online reported.
“We faced a very complicated and difficult Najm Ben Aknoun team,” Mokwena said.
“I thank all our players for the great physical effort they put in, and the morale they showed, and I am very proud of them,” the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach added.
During his post-match press conference, Mokwena also revealed his frustration over the number of games played during the season as he advocated for greater protection for the players.
“I don’t want to talk too much about the physical aspect,” he said. “I am a little bit disappointed that during the AFCON we have been playing so many games. It’s not normal,” the 39-year-old added.
“I strongly believe that we should not be playing so many games,” he went on. “ButI can comment now because we are winning games. The moment I comment, and we are losing, it sounds like an excuse. But it is difficult for players to play when they are under incredible fatigue,” Mokwena concluded.
