Zimbabwe Gazettes New Vehicle Licensing and Registration Fees

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona has gazetted new vehicle licensing fees. The changes are contained in Statutory Instrument 10 of 2026.

The Extraordinary Government Gazette published the instrument on Tuesday. The SI is titled “Vehicle Registration and Licensing (Amendment) Regulations 2026”.

Revised Registration and Ownership Fees

Under the new schedule, first-time vehicle registration now costs US$50 per transaction. This fee applies to cars, motorcycles, and trailers. Meanwhile, changing ownership and buying new plates for a motor vehicle now costs US$95. However, retaining old plates during ownership change costs US$15.

For motorcycles or trailers, ownership change with new plates costs US$85. In contrast, keeping old plates costs US$15. Additionally, replacing Public Service Vehicle plates now costs US$85. Replacing a Public Service Vehicle trailer plate costs US$80.

Personalised Plates and Other Charges

Personalised plates for vehicles up to 1 500cc now cost US$2 500. Vehicles above 1 500cc will pay US$5 000 for personalised plates. Furthermore, a duplicate third plate now costs US$35.

Garage plates, garage licences, and Abnormal Load Plates now cost US$50 each. A Temporary Identity Card now costs US$35. Obtaining a Duplicate Registration Book costs US$15. A Vehicle Licensing booklet now costs US$50.

Finally, changing a vehicle’s night address now costs US$3. The same fee applies to vehicle detail changes, registration cancellation, and advice of sale.
