After losing Andre De Jong to Orlando Pirates, Stellenbosch FC are on the hunt for experience up front — and Siya sources indicate that their attention could turn to on-loan Magesi striker Wonderboy Makhubu.
With Stellenbosch actively looking for a forward in the January transfer window after De Jong joined Pirates, sources tell Soccer Laduma that a potential swap deal could be on the cards, with the 29-year-old attracting interest from the Western Cape-based side.
“Thato (Khiba) might go to Sekhukhune United, then Makhubu to Stellenbosch. Nothing is official yet, but it could be finalised today.” revealed an insider.
Makhubu is currently on loan at Magesi from Sekhukhune United and has played 12 games this season, scoring once and providing an assist. Makhubu came through a journey of clubs before making a name for himself in the PSL.
He joined Sekhukhune United in 2022 following spells with Baroka FC and the University of Pretoria, but was loaned out to Magesi, where he truly flourished.
During his 2024/25 loan, he scored multiple goals and provided assists across competitions, helping Magesi secure a respectable league position and make cup runs.
This move could be part of a swap deal with Thato Khiba.
“Stellenbosch initially wanted Mosadi, but Sekhukhune suggested trading Khiba for Makhubu. This could happen today,” added the source.
