Scam Details Emerge
According to The Herald, the alleged scam occurred in December 2024, when the complainant—whose identity remains confidential—was looking for a residential stand in Harare and surrounding areas.
Mawire is accused of working with Mavis Java and Tinashe Maduza, both of whom are currently on remand.
He is also alleged to have collaborated with Tawanda Dendford Bondamakara, who remains at large.

Fake Ownership Claims
According to the State, the accused allegedly offered the complainant stand number 877 in Quinnington Township, presenting documents purportedly issued by the City of Harare to support claims that the land was available for sale.
The stand was reportedly priced at US$75,000, with Mawire allegedly posing as a legitimate agent authorised to sell the property.
Scam Uncovered at City Offices
The alleged fraud came to light when the complainant later approached the City of Harare seeking approval for building plans. Officials reportedly advised that the stand was not owned by the municipality but was privately owned, triggering suspicion.
When the complainant attempted to seek clarification, Mawire and his alleged accomplices reportedly became evasive, prompting a report to the police.
Arrest and Losses
Following investigations, Mawire was arrested and charged. The State alleges that the complainant suffered a financial loss of US$75,000, with no funds having been recovered to date.
The matter remains before the courts as investigations continue.
