UCL: Liverpool Return To Winning Ways On Salah Return

Olympique Marseille 0-3 Liverpool

Liverpool edged closer to a spot in the UEFA Champions League knockout stage with a 3-0 win over Olympique Marseille.

The Reds had Mohamed Salah back in the starting line-up after spending the last month with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Hugo Ektike had the ball in the back of the net on 23 minutes with a neat finish in the box, but the goal was ruled out for offside by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

The Reds got their reward on the stroke of halftime when Dominik Szoboszlai unleashed a free-kick that sailed under the wall and into back of net.

Liverpool made the game safe 73rd minute when Jeremie Frimpong surged into the box and sent a low cross into the six-yard, although goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli could only deflect the ball into his own net.

There was time for a third goal in second-half stoppage time as substitute Cody Gakpo calmly slotted into the far corner.

Slavia Prague 2-4 Barcelona

FC Barcelona remain in contention for an automatic last 16 spot following a 4-2 win over Slavia Prague.

The home side took the lead on 10 minutes when Vasil Kusej collected a pass from Tomas Holes before firing into the bottom corner.

The Catalan giants got back on level terms in the 34th minute through Fermin Lopez’s powerful finish.

Fermin completed the turnaround for Barcelona on 42 minutes with his second, but Slavia were gifted the equaliser courtesy of a Robert Lewandowski own goal.

Barcelona took control in the second half and bagged a third goal on 63 minutes thank to Dani Olmo’s strike, while Lewandowski made up for his own goal by bagging the team’s fourth in the 71st minute.

Chelsea 1-0 Pafos

Chelsea grinded out a 1-0 win over Pafos FC at Stamford Bridge.

It took a while for the Blues to get the goal as Moises Caicedo pounce on a rebound in the box and headed home from close range.

The win sees the Blues occupy eighth spot, which is the final automatic Last 16 spot.

Bayern Munch 2-0 Royal Union SG

Bayern Munich cemented second spot in the League Phase with a 2-0 triumph over Royal Union SG.

After a scoreless first half, Bayern took the lead in the 52nd minute when Harry Kane nodded home a corner from Michael Olise.

The lead was doubled three minutes as Kane completed his brace by converting a penalty

Vincent Kompany’s side finished the game with ten men as Kim Min-Jae was given his marching orders on 63 minutes while Kane missed the chance to complete his hat-trick after missing a penalty in the 80th minute.
