Gomora United head coach Ashley Makhanya is planning to use a full strength side against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup, despite their main priority being the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Makhanya’s charges currently sit 12 in the Championship standings five points above the relegation zone following Friday’s goalless draw at home to Venda Football Club.

Addressing journalists during a press conference at the PSL Offices in Parktown on Monday afternoon, Makhanya said that they will give their all against Sundowns and fight for a positive result to respect the game.
“Of course, the priority is to stay in the league and do well in the league and currently we are not doing so well, but at the same time you can’t then say in the Nedbank we are just going to go easy, honour the fixture and participate,” Makhanya told journalists.
“That will be disrespecting the game itself and disrespecting the competition. We are going to go with our strong team and go all out to give our best performance.”
The former defender then added that, however, football is just about one match and the most important game at the moment is against the Brazilians.

“Football is just about one match. What is important is the next game in front of you and the next game is Mamelodi Sundowns and that is all we have on our minds,” the coach added.
“We want to give it our best shot, pit our best players on the pitch and that is what we are going to do. You can’t play looking too much forward, what is the next game, what is coming.”
