Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has said that his opponents on the field of play used to suffer because of the God-given talent that he had.
Talking during a partnership launch between Carling Black Label and Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday afternoon at the SAB Headquarters in Bryanston, Johannesburg, Khumalo described himself as a no-nonsense kind of player, one who gave his opponents a hard time on the field.

Since making the move to a professional career, the retired Bafana midfielder has only ever represented one South African club. He joined Kaizer Chiefs’ youth ranks in the late 80’s before concluding his career at his boyhood club in 2002.
The 1996 AFCON winner recently reflected on his playing abilities as a youngster, describing himself as one who made other teams suffer.
“The first thing that I was told, obviously by the chairman, was that we need to put a smile on the supporters’ faces.
“So, because I had a God-given talent, my opponents had to suffer. And I’m saying that without any fear,” Khumalo told the gathering. “Anything that is not gold and black was my enemy. So, they had to pay the price.
For him, a big contributor to why he gave his all on the field was because of the history that comes with a club like Kaizer Chiefs.

“But above all, there was more respect for the history. Because I didn’t want to be the generation that spoils the party. So, I went out there with a five-star heart that said, ‘it’s a must-win’.
“So, remember, Kaizer Chiefs, whether you can bring a lower-tier team, we’re playing final. That’s a cup final for us. So those are some of the things that made me to perform well,” Khumalo observed.
