Los Blancos coach Alvaro Arbelo handed recalls to Dani Carvajal, Raul Asenscio and David Alaba following Tuesday’s win over Benfica in the UEFA Champions League while Vinicius Junior continued in the attack alongside Kylian Mbappe.
The Madrid outfit dominated possession in the early stages of the first half, with Vinicius Junior causing a bit of trouble down the left flank although they struggled to create any clear-cut openings.
The hosts went very close to taking the lad on 25 minutes when Ante Budimir lost his marker to meet an in-swinging corner, however his header was brilliantly tipped away by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Osasuna were then awarded a penalty ten minutes before the halftime break for Courtois’ foul on Budimir in the box. The striker dusted himself off and calmly slotted home the spot-kick to hand the home side a deserved lead.
Los Blancos looked to get back on level terms in the second half but were finding it tough to carve out big chances, which resulted in coach Arbeloa making a double change on the hour mark by throwing on Trent Alexander-Arnold and Brahim Diaz for Carvajal and Eduardo Camavinga.
The visitors got their reward in the 73rd minute when Federico Valverde did well to pick out Vinicius, who controlled well before rifling the ball into the back of the net.
The game was seemingly headed for a draw until the host grabbed the winning goal in the 91st minute when Raul Garcia showed great composure to skip between Alexander-Arnold and Asencio before calmly firing past Courtois.
