TS Galaxy advanced to the Nedbank Cup semi-finals after defeating Jacksa Spears 2-0 in their quarter-final on Sunday afternoon.

Spears were coming up against top-flight opposition for the first time after facing fellow amateur opposition, while the Rockets stunned Mamelodi Sundowns in the last round of the competition.
The visitors were without head coach Adnan Beganovic who was suspended, although Victor Letsoalo and Oupa Motaung were recalled as the two changes from Tuesday’s loss to Orbit College, with Sedwyn George and Macbeth Mahlangu dropping to the bench.
Galaxy dominated possession in the early stages but it was Spears who had the first big opening after 19 minutes when Bokamoso Sereetsi unleashed a powerful free-kick from distance that forced goalkeeper Ira Tape into a superb save.
The hosts eventually boke the deadlock on 33 minutes when defender Igor got his first goal for the club with a towering header ate getting on the end of Patrick Fisher’s set-piece, which was their only clear-cut opening of the half.
While Spears were unable to take advantage of their chances, Galaxy doubled their lead ten minutes into the second had when Kakora won the ball in opposition box before rifling the ball into the top corner.
The visitors nearly pulled a goal back after 73 minutes from a set-pice but Tape was on hand to keep out Harold Mahlalela’s header that took deflection.
That proved to be Spears’ last opening goal although they remained competitive throughout the encounter to deny Galaxy more goals at the other end of the park.
Galaxy are the first Premiership team to book their spot in the semi-finals, where they will join Casric Stars and Milford FC.
