“Not About Money”: Sikandar Raza Fires Back at Imad Wasim Remarks

Sikandar Raza Responds to Imad Wasim’s PSL Comments, Dismisses Money Claims

Zimbabwe T20I captain Sikandar Raza has responded to comments made by former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim

He rejected suggestions that financial gain influenced his dramatic return for a Pakistan Super League (PSL) final.

Controversy Over Last-Minute Return

The debate stems from last year’s PSL 10 final at Gaddafi Stadium, where Raza made a last-minute appearance for Lahore Qalandars just minutes before the toss.

The all-rounder had been on national duty with Zimbabwe in a Test match against England in Nottingham, casting doubt over whether he would feature in the high-stakes final. However, he arrived in time to take part against Quetta Gladiators.

Imad’s Remarks Spark Debate

At the time, Imad suggested that financial incentives often drive players to push their limits in franchise cricket, implying that money could have influenced Raza’s decision to return so quickly after international duty.

His comments reignited discussions around the pressures of modern cricket schedules and the role of lucrative leagues.

Raza Sets the Record Straight

Speaking in a recent interview, Raza dismissed the claims, insisting his decision was guided by personal principles rather than financial rewards.

He said commitment, respect and loyalty to his team were his primary motivations, adding that he actually lost money by missing earlier matches due to national duty.

Match-Winning Heroics

Raza’s return proved decisive, as Lahore Qalandars, led by Shaheen Afridi, went on to secure the PSL 10 title in a thrilling six-wicket victory.

Chasing a daunting target, the Qalandars were powered by key contributions from players including Mohammad Naeem and Abdullah Shafique, before Raza stepped up in the final over.

With 13 runs needed, he held his nerve to strike a boundary and a six, sealing victory with a ball to spare and capping off a dramatic turnaround that continues to be widely discussed.
