The connection between football and technology took centre stage in Johannesburg this week as some of South Africa’s biggest football names joined fans and young talents to celebrate the launch of the new HONOR X7d 5G.

Among the stars in attendance were Mamelodi Sundowns duo Themba Zwane and Ronwen Williams, Siwelele FC winger Vincent Pule, and several rising prospects from the Amajita national team, including Thabang Mahlangu, Neo Rapoo, Siviwe Magidigidi, and Lazola Maku. The players joined supporters and participants from the SuperSport MVP Talent Search, who each walked away with a brand-new device courtesy of HONOR South Africa.

The event wasn’t just about unveiling new tech – it was a celebration of excellence and endurance, values shared by both sport and innovation. HONOR South Africa CEO Fred Zhou highlighted the synergy between the two worlds, saying, “Sport and technology share a common DNA – precision, endurance and innovation. The HONOR X7d 5G embodies these qualities, giving South Africans a device that’s as reliable and high-performing as their favourite athletes.”

The launch also reinforced HONOR’s commitment to supporting South African sport, particularly grassroots development. By gifting devices to the MVP Talent Search participants, the brand encouraged young athletes to harness technology as part of their sporting journey – for training, communication, and self-promotion.

Built for performance, the HONOR X7d 5G is designed to handle the demands of everyday life – much like the footballers who tested their limits on the pitch. With SGS-certified drop protection and IP65 water resistance, it’s built to endure pressure, while a 6500mAh battery and 35W SuperCharge keep users powered through long match days and travel schedules.

The device is available in Desert Gold and Velvet Black from 1 November at a recommended retail price of R3999.
