Arsenal Run Riot In North London Derby

Arsenal moved six points clear at the top of the Premier League by thrashing Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 in the North London Derby on Sunday evening.

The Gunners were without the services of defender Gabriel as Piero Hincapié Hincapie made his first start in the Premier League alongside William Saliba, while Mikel Merino continued to lead the attack in the absence of Viktor Gyökeres.

The hosts nearly got off to the perfect start when Eberechi Eze did well to loft into the path of Declan Rice, who unleashed a powerful volley that forced Spurs goalkeeper Vicario into a fine save.

Spurs, meanwhile, were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure in the opening 20 minutes but the wide duo of Mohammed Kudus and Wilson Odobert were unable to provide on the counter.

Arsenal continued to dominate and got their reward ten minutes before the halftime break when Merino did well to pick out the run of Leandro Trossard, who turned well and volleyed into the far corner via a deflection.

The lead was doubled four minutes before the halftime break Eze collected a pass from Declan Rice and carved out some space in the box before firing into the back of the net against the side who trying to sign him in the last transfer window.

The Gunners carried that momentum into the second half and bagged a third goal two minutes when Jurrien Timber did well to pick out Eze on the edge of the box and the latter calmly slotted into the far corner to complete his brace.

Spurs, however, gave themselves some hop after the hour mark as Richarlison spotted Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya off his line and managed to score from around 35-yards out.

The home side ended any hope of a Spurs comeback with 15 minutes to play as Eze rounded off a wonderful day by completing his hat-trick with a well-taken finish from just inside the box.
