Attacking Boost On The Horizon For Bucs

Orlando Pirates could be set for another timely boost as indications are that attacking midfielder Kabelo Dlamini is edging closer to a return from injury.

The Buccaneers have already welcomed back Evidence Makgopa and Thalente Mbatha to full training ahead of the highly anticipated Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs, with head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou confirming their progress at Thursday’s press conference at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.

Now, Siya sources have indicated that Dlamini could also be among the players in line to make himself available for selection in the coming matches – though not necessarily in time for the derby itself.

Ouaddou recently revealed that the 29-year-old had been sidelined for over three weeks, with his absence felt in Pirates’ attacking transitions and creativity between the lines.

Dlamini has been an important figure in linking midfield and attack in recent seasons, offering composure on the ball and an eye for unlocking compact defences and influential in taking set-pieces.

While there has been no official confirmation of his immediate availability, insiders suggest that the player is on the mend and progressing well in his recovery programme, although he has struggled for game time under Ouaddou.

Should he complete full training sessions without setbacks, he could hand Ouaddou another valuable option as Pirates navigate a demanding period in the Betway Premiership title race.

Pirates will be looking to regain momentum in the league following their defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns last week, and squad depth could prove decisive in the weeks ahead.

The potential return of Dlamini would not only strengthen competition for places but also provide tactical flexibility, particularly in matches where Pirates may need greater attacking fluidity.

With Makgopa and Mbatha already reintegrated into the group, and Dlamini reportedly nearing readiness, the Buccaneers appear to be rebuilding their squad strength at a crucial juncture of the season.

Whether he features this weekend or not, signs suggest that Dlamini’s return may not be too far away – and that could be a timely lift for Ezimnyama as they push for honours.
