Steve Barker has reportedly called for more from his players despite picking up his first league victory as Simba coach.

Barker sought to bring an end to a three-game winless run with Simba as he chased a first victory in the league against Mashujaa FC.

With Simba undergoing several changes this season already, Barker faced a difficult test as he looked to get the team’s league and CAF Champions League campaign back on track.

Simba emerged 2-0 winners over Mashujaa and it gave the team a much-needed boost ahead of a crucial and possible elimination game against Esperance in the Champions League.

According to Pan-Africa Football, Barker revealed that he was happy with his team’s performance and the way they controlled the game.

It was a well-deserved victory, despite the shot that they had, which we had to make a save, even though we controlled the game well enough, a game we could have scored more in, and killed it off,” Barker said.

“But I am pleased with the progression of what I am seeing, new players have started to integrate, and pleased with the overall performance,” he added.

Despite the win, the South African believes his team can still improve as the season goes on.

“We were in control of the game, but obviously, there is still work to be done in improvement, but we are getting there,” he concluded.
