JUBA – The Sudan People’s Liberation Army–In Opposition (SPLA-IO) has announced that its forces have captured the towns of Yuai in Jonglei State and Nadapal in Eastern Equatoria State, following what it described as successful military operations against government positions.

In a brief statement released on Friday, SPLA-IO spokesperson Col. Lam Paul Gabriel said the group had taken control of South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) military bases in both locations.

“Yuai and Nadapal have fallen,” Col. Gabriel said, confirming the reported takeover. He added that the SPLA-IO had overrun the SSPDF base in Yuai, Jonglei State, as well as the military position in Nadapal, Eastern Equatoria State.

According to the spokesperson, further details regarding the operations and the situation on the ground would be provided at a later stage.

At the time of publication, there was no immediate response from the SSPDF regarding the claims. Independent verification of the reported captures was also not possible.

Yuai is a strategically important town in Jonglei State and has previously witnessed clashes between rival forces. Nadapal, located near the South Sudan–Kenya border in Eastern Equatoria State, is similarly sensitive due to its strategic location and history of military and political tensions.

The developments come amid ongoing security challenges in parts of the country, where sporadic fighting continues to raise concerns over civilian safety and regional stability.

This is a developing story, and updates will be published as more information becomes available.
