BREAKING | SSPDF reclaims Yuai, Pathai bases, says spokesman

BOR – The South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) has regained control of two military bases in Jonglei State following clashes with the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO), claimed the army spokesperson.

Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang said Wednesday that Yuai Barracks was retaken at 3:30pm on Tuesday, while the Pathai military outpost was secured a day earlier, on Monday evening. Both bases were initially captured by the opposition forces.

In a statement, the army’s spokesperson, Maj Gen Lul Ruai Koang, praised troops involved in the operation.

“The SSPDF leadership under overall command of the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Paul Nang Majok PhD (postdoc) is profoundly proud to announce to own rank & files and the public re-liberation of Yuai barracks at 3:30PM, 28/1/2026 and Pathai military Outpost at 6:00PM on 27/1/2026,” Ruai said.

“The SSPDF command congratulates its gallant forces for rapidly regaining control of the lost bases,” he added.

The military said the operation was carried out under the overall command of the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Paul Nang Majok, but did not give details about the fighting or the number of casualties.
