Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has reflected on the side’s Africa Cup of Nations exit at the hands of Cameroon.

South Africa suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Indomitable Lions in a round of 16 clash on Sunday night.

Broos was encouraged by what he saw from his side in the first half after making four changes from the win over Zimbabwe.

“I think we started very well in the game where we had chances to score, I think if we score then we can never lose the game but ok. Then, we had a little bit unluck with the corner, the player shoots he his blocked, it falls again at the feet of player, he shoots and score for the 1-0,” Broos told SABC Sport.

“But I was happy with what we brought in the first half so we thought to go all in the second and then after a few minutes in the second half we concede a second goal.

“And then that’s a little bit a pity because we now had to score two goals. Even then we had the chances to score those two goals and have a draw, but it was not our day today.”

He continued, “You know, after halftime you get a second goal so quickly then that cuts the legs in the way of speaking and then we went on and fight for it, we had chances, we could’ve scored earlier 2-1 and then get the 2-2 and you saw what happened in the last ten minutes.

“We just kicked the ball in front and they defended well and ok it’s a disappointed certainly for everyone of us but I can’t be unhappy with the game we played today.”
