Argument Allegedly Sparked by Supper Delay
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza said the dispute reportedly started when Mautsa confronted his wife over supper not being ready on time.
Police allege that during the argument, Mautsa physically assaulted his wife using open hands and damaged her mobile phone, escalating tensions inside the house.
Neighbour Temporarily Calms Situation
A neighbour, identified as Blessing Chengeti, intervened around midnight after the quarrel spilled outside the couple’s room and caused a disturbance near his door. His intervention briefly defused the situation, and the pair returned to their room.
However, police say the calm was short-lived.
Wife Allegedly Confesses Before Fleeing
Several hours later, the wife reportedly contacted a workmate, claiming she had attacked her husband. According to Inspector Chakanza, she admitted during the call that she had stabbed Mautsa three times with a kitchen knife and urged the workmate to check on him.
She allegedly fled the scene immediately after making the call.
When police attended the scene, they found Mautsa dead, with severe wounds to his neck, left shoulder and back. A kitchen knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered from the garden outside the house.
Police Launch Manhunt
Mautsa’s body was taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large, and are appealing to members of the public for information that may assist in her arrest.
