Colonel Minnie Baloyi Chiwenga Hosts Nandos Guy Following Facebook Offer

Minnie Baloyi Chiwenga’s Humble Gesture Wins Zimbabwean Hearts

In a remarkable act of approachability, Zimbabwe’s Second Lady, Colonel Minnie Baloyi Chiwenga, has won widespread admiration by hosting a complete stranger and his wife for lunch. The meeting followed a public offer made months ago on social media. The ordinary citizen, Edwin Brisco Chisango, had boldly promised to treat the Vice President and his wife to a meal at his expense, a pledge that was unexpectedly honoured last Sunday in a private gathering at the Chiwenga residence.

Colonel Baloyi confirmed the event in a detailed Facebook post on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, sharing the heartwarming outcome of the social media exchange. She revealed that she and the Vice President had instead hosted Mr Chisango and his wife. True to his word, Chisango presented the budgeted funds for the Nandos meal as a gift.

The post read:

So finally we hosted the “Nandos Guy” Edwin Brisco Chisango and his lovely wife last Sunday. True to his word he brought the money he promised he budgeted for our Nandos, akazoramba hake kuti awedzere up to $50 (and he firmly refused to increase it to US$50 (approx. ZAR 900)), as some of you had suggested 😂😂😂but we were happy kanhi (though).

He even narrated how some of you insulted him saying “washaya pekupengera here?” (don’t you have anywhere else to be crazy?), some even threatened him citing security reasons …he had to temporarily block his account, but well here we are.

Social Media Erupts With Praise For “Humble” Second Lady

The post triggered an avalanche of positive reactions, with thousands of Zimbabweans flooding the comments to commend Colonel Baloyi’s humility and humanity.

The comments section transformed into a tribute, with many users describing her as a “mother of the nation” and praising the couple for their down-to-earth gesture.

Facebook user Patience Mudzamba wrote,

“I always wondered what an angel would behave like on Earth….I think I have found my answer….you have so much warmth and humbleness, mama. God bless you.”

Another user, Malvern Chihuri, connected the act to broader public perception, stating,

“Truly a good, strategic wife is the best resource any man can have …General is slowly becoming Zim’s favorite politician bcz of the wife …Minnie Baloyi you’re doing a good job amai.”

Event Sparks Widespread National Conversation

The story of the ‘Nandos Guy’ lunch has become a major talking point, with many seeing it as a rare moment of connection between the country’s leadership and ordinary citizens.
