Goals from Omar Marmoush and a last-minute goal from Mohamed Salah helped Egypt to a 2-1 win over Zimbabwe in their AFCON opener, the same scoreline as South Africa’s victory over Angola.
Ibrahim was speaking after the game, and he reflected on the win against Zimbabwe, offering special praise to the Egyptian fans, reports the Egyptian publication FilGoal.
“I congratulate the Egyptian fans who supported us in the stands,” Ibrahim said. “We started the match early and wasted many opportunities and conceded a goal against the run of play, but we have great players who are aware, and we were able to hold on,” the Egyptian star added.
Ahead of Egypt’s next game against South Africa, the Al Ahly star praised the 1996 AFCON champions and revealed the team’s game plan for the challenge ahead
“South Africa is a strong team, and we know most of their players,” Ibrahim said. “We will close the book on Zimbabwe and study well before the South Africa match with the coaching staff, and we will look at their weaknesses and focus on the next match,” he concluded.
