John Maduka has emerged as one of the names being discussed following Durban City’s decision to part ways with head coach Sinethemba Badela, the Siya crew has been informed.

Durban City confirmed on Monday afternoon that they had mutually agreed to terminate Badela’s contract with immediate effect, citing the need for experience and short-term stability as the club enters a crucial phase of the campaign.

In a detailed statement, the KwaZulu-Natal outfit stressed that the decision was not a reflection of results, but rather the immediate competitive demands of the season, with 13 key fixtures still to be played.

With the search for a new head coach set to begin, Siya sources indicate that Maduka’s name has surfaced as a possible candidate, particularly given his familiarity with the club and the Durban football landscape.

Maduka previously coached the club in 2022 when they were still known as Maritzburg United, and remains highly regarded in KwaZulu-Natal football circles, having also enjoyed spells with clubs such as Royal AM.

His availability has come into focus amid growing uncertainty surrounding his future at Magesi FC.

As reported by the Siya crew on Friday, Magesi have effectively moved on from Maduka in their day-to-day operations, despite no official announcement from the Limpopo-based club. Assistant coach Abram Nteo has been placed in interim charge as the club attempts to halt a worrying run of results.

Magesi currently sit bottom of the Betway Premiership standings with just 11 points from 15 matches, and sources close to the situation have indicated that Maduka has already disengaged from training and match preparations.

While Durban City have yet to announce interim arrangements or confirm their recruitment process, sources believe the club is prioritising a coach with experience and an understanding of the pressures that come with Top Eight push and short-term objectives.

With Maduka’s future at Magesi appearing increasingly uncertain, a return to Durban City could represent a timely opportunity for both parties, should discussions progress in the coming days.
