Family stands by Mike Chimombe in mass jail visit (video)

Relatives of convicted businessman Mike Chimombe thronged Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison during a recent family visitation. The emotional gathering underlined how, despite his 12-year sentence for multi-million-dollar fraud, his loved ones remain firmly by his side.

Love Behind Prison Walls

From early morning, cars arrived in long lines, off-loading relatives of every age. Children clutched food parcels, while elders carried blankets and toiletries. Prison officers moved briskly, yet the atmosphere remained warm and hopeful.

When Chimombe finally walked into the visitors’ section, cheers and ululations broke out. Family members hugged him tightly, briefly erasing the harshness of prison life. Though visibly tired, he smiled, laughed and posed for photographs, soaking in each precious minute.

A Controversial Figure, Still A Father And Son

Chimombe was jailed after a High Court conviction over the US$7 million Presidential Goat Scheme fraud, alongside partner Moses Mpofu.

Yet, during the visit, politics and court battles faded into the background. Instead, relatives focused on his health, his spirit and his role as father, uncle and son. They updated him on school results, weddings and family projects, determined to keep him emotionally present.

Hope, Appeals And An Unbroken Bond

Afterward, relatives said the visit strengthened their resolve to support his planned Supreme Court appeal.

They promised more visits, more prayers and more legal backing. As they left the prison yard, many wiped away tears but walked with renewed determination. For them, the gates separated bodies, not hearts. Their message to Chimombe was clear: the family bond remains unbroken.
