Ghana Coach: ‘Bafana Are AFCON Contenders’

Ghana’s Black Galaxies coach Kassim Mingle Ocansey revealed his thoughts on South Africa’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) chances.

South Africa will face Angola, Egypt and Zimbabwe in Group B for the 2025 AFCON, and Ocansey believes Bafana will be among the favourites to win the tournament.

The manager was speaking following South Africa’s 1-0 win over the Black Galaxies – Ghana’s B team – which was their final game before the tournament.

According to Pan-Africa Football, Ocansey was impressed by the way Hugo Broos’ men played and said the 1996 AFCON winners were ones to watch.

“Without taking anything from Bafana Bafana, they are a very good team,” the 68-year-old.

“Tactically, if you don’t strategise well, they will disgrace you. They are not a bad side at all. They are a very solid team, and I wish them all the luck,” he added.

The veteran coach rated South Africa among the favourites to win the tournament and add a second continental title.

“I rate Bafana Bafana as one of the contenders for AFCON. I have confidence in them that they are one of the contenders for the title,” he concluded.
