Under a bold plan announced on Wednesday, Google is set to support higher education across Africa by offering its premium AI subscription, Google AI Pro for free to university students for a year. The plan, which is available to eligible students aged over 18 in Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, is tailormade to offer thousands of young learners access to Google’s most advanced AI tools, helping them to substantially enhance their day to day learning and research, as well as creative engagements.
According to the U.S.-based firm, it’s Gemini 2.5 Pro is set to offer the next generation of workers in Africa necessary knowledge and understanding of AI fundamentals. The Google AI Pro plan provides a comprehensive suite of tools designed for the demands of academic and creative life:
- Learning and Research: With newly minted features such as Guided Learning, students will benefit by undertaking detailed research works, summarizing academic papers with ease, debugging code for upcoming programmers and software developers, while also getting step-by-step guidance on complex problems at the speed of need.
