Usuthu coach Arthur Zwane made just one change from the draw with Richards Bay as Tebogo Mashigo replaced Hendrick Ekstein, while Ryan Moon was back on the bench after recovering from injury.

The two sides were quite lively in the early stages of the contest, although Arrows shaded the possession statistics but were often let down by their decision-making in the final third.

The visitors were dealt a blow on 25 minutes as the in-form goalkeeper Darren Johnson was forced off with an injury and replaced by Olwethu Mzimela, who was making his second league appearance of the campaign.

Usuthu carved out the first big chance five minutes later when Nkosikhona Radebe carved out some space in the box before unleashing a powerful strike that forced goalkeeper Mbanjwa into a fine save.

However, Arrows were awarded a penalty on the stroke of halftime for Minenhle Ngcobo’s foul on Siyanda Mthanti in the box. Sede Dion stepped up looking to add to his six league goal but ended up striking the crossbar.

Zwane’s charges took full advantage in the second half and opened the scoring on 56 minutes when captain Riaan Hanamub cut on to his right foot and unleashed a superb strike from distance that sailed into the top corner.

Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi responded with a double change by throwing on Brandon Theron and Nduduzo Sibiya for Keenan Phillips and Isaac Cisse for the final 25 minutes of the second period.

Mzimela came to AmaZulu’s rescue with 12 minutes on the clock by pulling off two saves in quick succession to keep out powerful volleys from Angelo van Rooi and Brandon Theron, while Dion squandered a good headed chance a few moments later.
