JUBA—The Governor of Lakes State, Gen. Madhang Majok Meen, and the Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, have reached an agreement to enhance security along their mutual border in order to address cross-border crime and insecurity.

The two governors met on Wednesday in Juba to discuss the incident that took place during the relaunch of the Juba-Bhar-el-Ghazel road on January 24, 2026, where communities along the common border had a dispute regarding the territorial boundaries of Terekeka and Awerial.

The meeting decided to establish a joint committee responsible for facilitating discussions on peaceful coexistence and harmony among the communities along the shared borders.

Addressing the media after a meeting on Wednesday in Juba, Gen. Madhang Majok Meen, the Governor of Lakes State, stated that they are working on initiatives to foster peace and harmony between the Terekeka and Awerial communities.

“We came to pay a visit to the Governor of Central Equatoria, especially with regard to what was happening in two communities of Awerial and Terekeka. We came to conclusions to see that the harmony is there,” Majok said.

“We are one community and one system. We are here to develop our people. We are here to let our people remain in peace.”

Emmanuel Adil Anthony, the governor of Central Equatoria State, stated that they discussed ways to enhance the relationship between the communities of the two states.

“We discussed the relationship and all of the awareness in the state borders of Lake State. We share so many things in common, historical ties. We are people who are one in many aspects,” said Emmanuel.

Emmanuel stated that the two states had shared interests and emphasised the importance of improving cooperation and strengthening peace.

“We do business together. We share so many things in common, historical ties. We are people who are one in many aspects. We do business together,” he said.

He added, “We interact. Lake State is also a hub in the country, which is a state located in the centre. So we shared how we enhance cooperation and consolidate the peace efforts that have been done.”

He said they have agreed to work jointly to enhance cross-border security.

“And even how to curb criminality between our common borders. Most important is how to restore people, people in the government. So I was told that the governor of the state and his government will support Lake State and his administration as he assumes responsibility in all aspects so that our people continue to enjoy peace.”
