Leicesterford City Door Opened For Chiefs Goalkeeper

Bontle Molefe has joined Leicesterford City on loan from Kaizer Chiefs.

Leicesterford City coach Stanford Nkoane has opened the door for Kaizer Chiefs loanee Bontle Molefe to step into the role of number one goalkeeper at the club.

Molefe joined Leicesterford in the Motsepe Foundation Championship on a loan move until the end of the season from Kaizer Chiefs, with game time hard to come by at Naturena at the moment.

As a goalkeeper joining a club on loan halfway through the situation, Molefe is in a tricky situation of trying to get ahead of the shot-stoppers at Leicesterford. It’s unlike being an in-field player, where opportunities are far greater than the goalkeeping department.

Molefe was on the bench in Leciesterford’s 2-1 victory over the weekend and is waiting for his opportunity to make his debut for the club.

Nkoane has left the door open for the 23-year-old Molefe to break into the team. He has to compete with Tebatso Phoku, who has been seen as the number one at the club.

“He joined us two weeks ago. We’ve been leaking goals and not that we blame the goalkeepers, but we saw a need to enforce that department. I knew him from his DDC days and he is someone who is stable and can help us. The NFD is more about set plays and he is someone who can read those situations,” Nkoane said to Soccer Laduma.

“As much as we have a number one, we saw a need to bring in another number one so that we can see between the two who can take us to the level we want to be. In our preparation for Upington (City), let’s see who is going to play. Upington is a different profile to Tuks. Let’s see who the demands will need.”

Nkoane, meanwhile, explained why experienced midfielder Kamohelo Mahlatsi, the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, has not featured yet in 2026.

“Kamo has been out injured, but he has started training. He has been doing light training. We are happy to have him back because he is mature and has goals in him. He is going to help us.”
