Loan Move On The Cards For Maseko As Agent Confirms Interest

Thapelo Maseko could go out on loan in the January transfer window

With Thapelo Maseko’s game time at Mamelodi Sundowns limited this season, his agent has opened up about the midfielder’s future at the club, confirming that a loan move is being explored.

Maseko arrived at Sundowns from SuperSport United amid high expectations, but has found consistent game time hard to come by. Now, his agent Glyn Binkin has confirmed to Soccer Laduma that discussions are underway with the club regarding a possible loan move during the January transfer window.

“For Thapelo (Maseko) we have numerous options for him to go out on loan in January which we are discussing with Sundowns at the moment. He is a promising young talent who needs game time and if it’s not going to be at Sundowns (which situation we understand and respect) then they need to give him the opportunity to do so elsewhere which is in everyone’s interests and in particular for the player in order to progress his career which unfortunately has stagnated over the past two seasons,” Binkin told Soccer Laduma.

The 22-year-old, who hails from Sebokeng, has made just seven appearances across all competitions for Sundowns this season, five of which have come in the Betway Premiership.

Despite his limited involvement at club level, Maseko’s pedigree is well established. Two seasons ago, he was named the inaugural Player of the Tournament at the African Football League (AFL), while at international level he has earned seven caps for Bafana Bafana. He was also part of the South African squad that claimed a bronze medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, scoring once during the tournament.

A loan move could provide the talented midfielder with the regular minutes needed to reignite his development and momentum as he looks to get his career back on track.
