Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Isaac Mabotsa has expressed his disappointment over the application of the players after a 3-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby.
Chiefs’ title chances faded after goals from Tshepang Moremi, Oswin Appollis and Evidence Makgopa gave The Buccaneers a comfortable victory.

Mabotsa, speaking to Soccer Laduma, questioned the body language of the Amakhosi players as they seemed not to have a fight with them.
“Eish, it was so bad. I mean we’re a laughing stock now. To be honest I’m not happy. The boys have to know that they have disappointed millions of people. They have to know that to play for Chiefs, it’s a big institution,” Mabotsa said.
“I was so disappointed, if you also check the stats, it says a lot. Football is about win or lose but the way we lost…sometimes it’s about how you lose the game, give it your all, if you lose you lose but as long as you commit yourself and give everything that you can.
“But on Saturday, it was just a bad day. I checked the stats, we had one shot (three) at goal the whole 90 minutes, it shows they had to dig deep to come back,” Mabotsa said.
Chiefs appeared to have their preparations compromised as goalkeeper Brandon Petersen, Mfundo Vilakazi and Mduduzi Shabalala were not in the matchday squad.
Amakhosi revealed that Petersen had to undergo an emergency surgery while the exclusion of Vilakazi and Shabalala raised concerns.
‘Yster’, as the former Amakhosi defender was fondly known, went on and stressed the importance of preparations ahead of this historic spectacle.
“Preparations are very important, the whole week up until you step into the field. I was surprised why Shabalala was not in the team,” Mabotsa said.

“And he’s a good player, when he’s not there you could see, it cost the team. I’m not saying he’s carrying the team but his presence you can feel it.
“The boys have to know, they are earning big money, we can’t take that away from them, it’s their time.
“But what I’m saying is that they really have to know when they go inside there, they are not playing for themselves, they are also playing for their families, millions of supporters who travel long distances, the way we lost it was bad I don’t want to lie,” Mabotsa added.
