A Harare socialite, Apphia Nyasha Musabayana, is in hot water after being slapped with a US$500,000 defamation lawsuit by fellow social media personality Madam Boss. The lawsuit stems from a series of scandalous claims Musabayana made on social media, alleging Madam Boss was having extramarital affairs with multiple men, including a ruling party official.
How It All Started
According to reports, Musabayana’s attacks on Madam Boss went beyond online posts, as she allegedly called Madam Boss’ husband, Ngoni Munetsiwa, at 2am, making similar claims and demanding he instruct Madam Boss to leave her boyfriend, Kelvin (aka Apple Papi). Musabayana also allegedly threatened to use her supposed political connections to make Madam Boss “disappear” if she didn’t comply.
Madam Boss is fighting back, with her lawyer, Admire Rubaya, demanding Musabayana retract the claims and issue a public apology. “You made this gravely defamatory assertion with reckless abandon, displaying a callous disregard for the truth and the profound damage such a statement would cause to our client’s marriage and family,” the letter reads.
Madam Boss Fears For Her Life
Musabayana’s alleged actions have left Madam Boss and her family living in fear. “You descended into outright criminality, vowing to make our client ‘disappear for good’ unless she abandoned the alleged relationship with your boyfriend. You flaunted supposed ZANU PF membership and claimed influence within the security sector to execute this barbaric threat,” the letter adds.
The lawsuit has garnered significant attention, with many taking to social media to show support for Madam Boss. Musabayana’s alleged behavior has been widely condemned, with some calling for her to face consequences for her actions.
In the letter, Rubaya accused Musabayana of stalking and harassment, citing instances where she grabbed screenshots of Madam Boss’ posts and added disparaging remarks. “This act of seizing an innocuous public post to advance a malicious narrative demonstrates premeditation and a calculated determination to ridicule and mischaracterise our client in public.”
Musabayana has been given a chance to retract her statements and issue an apology, failing which Madam Boss will proceed with the lawsuit. “Should you fail to retract the defamatory statements as demanded, our client shall proceed to issue Summons and claim damages for defamation in the sum of US$500,000,” the letter warns.
