Nadine de Klerk Seals a Clutch World Cup Win After Chloé Tryon and Marizanne Set the Stage

The Tigresses won the toss and opted to bat first, with openers Fargana Hoque (30) and Rubya Haider (25) providing a solid start. The pair brought up a 50-run opening stand within 16 overs before Tryon (1/41) made the breakthrough by dismissing Haider.

After a period of consolidation, Hoque became the next batter to fall when Nonkululeko Mlaba (2/42) trapped her LBW, leaving Bangladesh at 73/2 at the halfway mark. Another key partnership then developed between Sharmin Akter (50) and captain Nigar Sultana (32), propelling Bangladesh to 150/2 after 40 overs.

With the visitors looking to accelerate, Mlaba struck again in the 41st over with Sultana caught at extra cover. Shortly after, Sharmin Akter brought up her ninth career fifty before being run out following sharp work from Anneke Bosch and wicketkeeper Sinalo Jafta, reducing Bangladesh to 164/4 in the 43rd over.

Despite losing momentum, Bangladesh finished strongly as Shorna Akter 51* off 35 balls (3 fours, 3 sixes) launched a late assault, registering her maiden half-century to take the Tigresses past the 200-run mark. Although wickets fell towards the end, including another run out and a wicket for Nadine de Klerk (1/39), Bangladesh closed on 232/6.

In response, South Africa made a shaky start when Tazmin Brits (0) was caught and bowled by Nahida Akter (2/44). However, Laura Wolvaardt (31) and Bosch (28) steadied the innings with a 50-run stand, guiding their side to 53/1 after 13 overs.

Just as the Proteas appeared settled, Bangladesh hit back with a flurry of wickets. A mix of sharp bowling and fielding saw Wolvaardt, Bosch, Annerie Dercksen (2), and Sinalo Jafta (4) dismissed in quick succession.

Wickets from Ritu Moni (1/29), Rabeya Khan (1/48), and Fahima Khatun (1/51) triggered a collapse, leaving South Africa reeling at 78/5 in the 23rd over.

With 155 runs still required, Kapp and Tryon joined forces to rebuild the innings. The experienced duo combined superbly, adding a 50-run partnership to lift South Africa to 133/5 after 33 overs. Kapp continued her fine form, notching up her 16th career fifty before being caught at mid-off off the bowling of Nahida Akter, ending a vital 78-run stand.

Tryon then formed another crucial partnership with de Klerk (37*). The pair took the game deep, with Tryon reaching her 14th half-century before being run out in the closing stages. De Klerk once again held her nerve, much like in the previous match against India, steering the Proteas home alongside Masabata Klaas (10*) with just three balls remaining.

The victory sees South Africa climb to third place in the standings with six points, as they prepare for their next fixture against Sri Lanka on Friday, 17 October at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
