New Details Emerge on Guruve Serial Killer After Arrest

Fresh details have emerged about Anymore Zvitsva, the suspected Guruve serial killer whose arrest on Saturday brought an end to a nationwide manhunt that had gripped Zimbabwe since December 2025.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed that the 32-year-old fugitive was shot and captured during a joint security operation in Guruve on the afternoon of 3 January 2026.

Dramatic Arrest Ends Weeks-Long Manhunt

Zvitsva’s arrest followed weeks of intensive searches involving multiple security agencies after a string of brutal killings in Guruve and surrounding areas. Police said the operation to apprehend him was met with resistance, resulting in him being shot before he was taken into custody.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the exact charges he will face, but investigations are continuing as more information comes to light.

Troubled Childhood and Life on the Margins

Villagers describe Zvitsva as a long-standing troublemaker whose life was shaped by hardship and neglect.

According to The Sunday Mail, Anymore Zvitsva was born to a notorious thief known locally as “Fresher.” He and his siblings never attended school; instead they grew up in the bush, surviving through hunting, stealing and foraging.

Orphaned at a young age, Zvitsva was raised by his grandmother. Unlike some of his siblings who later integrated into society, he retreated deeper into isolation.

We have known him since he was a kid; together with his siblings they were raised in the jungle by their parents. I believe his problems stem from a messed-up upbringing, and as he grew older, he started stealing just like his father,” said villager Tinei Gweshe.

Growing Fear Within the Community

Zvitsva’s presence increasingly unsettled the community, with residents choosing to steer clear of him and elders rarely stepping in during disputes.

According to a former neighbour, Sarudzai, the methods used in the alleged killings bore similarities to his past offences.

“Whenever he entered a compound to steal, he would tie doors to trap people inside. That is exactly what was happening in these murders,” she said.

Return to Guruve and Alleged Family Assistance

Zvitsva is believed to have returned to Guruve earlier this year after completing a two-year prison sentence. Residents say he was often seen barefoot, poorly dressed and carrying a solar-powered radio, which he allegedly used to keep track of developments in the manhunt.
