With Phakamani Mahlambi currently training with Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Lerumo Lions, the Siya crew has been informed that the former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker could have more than one option in the second tier.

Mahlambi, 28, has been working on his fitness and sharpness in a bid to revive his professional career after spending time without a club.

His presence at Lerumo sparked speculation about a possible deal, but sources have indicated that other ambitious second-tier sides are also monitoring his situation.

Insiders close to the player have suggested that promotion-chasing Casric Stars are among the clubs that could be interested in assessing the winger.

“Casric is also an option,” a source told the Siya crew. “But at the moment, he is training with Lerumo Lions and giving his best there. There’s respect for the opportunity he’s been given,” the source said.

Casric, who are pushing for promotion and have also reached the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals this season after defeating PSL giants Orlando Pirates, are believed to be exploring ways to strengthen their squad as they chase top-flight football.

Mahlambi’s experience, which includes spells at Sundowns, Al Ahly SC and Bidvest Wits, could prove valuable in a high-pressure run-in.
