Nigeria were beaten 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the final of the CAF World Cup playoffs that took place in Morocco.

Eric Chelle was left visibly frustrated during the penalty shootout as the Super Eagles coach had accused the DRC coaches of voodoo.

“During the penalty session, a guy from Congo did some voodoo every time, every time…so this is why I was a little nervous after him,” Chelle said after the game.

The Malian was asked what he saw, and he gestured with his hand to show someone sprinkling water from a bottle.

“It was something like a bottle, I don’t know if it was water, I don’t know, but he did something,” he added.

Footage from the game also captured the 48-year-old being angered with the DRC bench as the shootout came to an end, with Chelle charging toward the DRC bench in a fit of rage.

The win meant the DRC will represent Africa in the inter-confederation playoffs taking place in Mexico in March 2026.
