Phakamani Mahlambi’s chances of reviving his career have gone up in smoke, as TS Galaxy have decided not to sign him.

This was confirmed by TS Galaxy owner Tim Sukazi, who explained why the 28-year-old wasn’t signed after training with the Rockets for a few weeks.

“Ja, Phakamani, we did everything in our power as a club, and there’s nothing more we can do,” said Sukazi, in conversation with Ikwekwezi FM.

“In my view, the touches and everything else are there, but umzimba (the body), no. The way TS Galaxy plays, he won’t be able to (adapt).

“Maybe if he plays in the NFD (National First Division) and we follow him. We did everything, including trying to help him lose weight, but the way TS Galaxy plays, and his body are not aligned. If he plays in the NFD and he does well, we may get him there.”

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly forward has been out of the game for four years, and there was hope he could line up alongside his younger brother, Seluleko, at TS Galaxy, but things didn’t work out.

He also tried his luck at Durban City sometime last year but couldn’t secure a deal.

The latest reports suggest he may be signed by Botswana Premier Soccer League side, Mochudi Centre Chiefs, but that too won’t materialize.

Soccer Laduma put a call through to Centre Chiefs general manager Owe Mmolawa, who dismissed the rumours.

“No, we are not signing Phakamani,” said Mmolawa, who sounded surprised when we put it to him that Centre Chiefs is linked with Mahlambi.

The reality is Centre Chiefs have exhausted their foreign quota. Like the Premier Soccer League (PSL), clubs in Botswana are allowed to sign five foreigners.

Centre Chiefs have five registered foreigners: Aitor Aldalur Agirrezabal (Spain), Evans Rusike (Zimbabwe), Nahuel Melgarejo (Argentina), Razeen Bennett (South Africa), and Sima Bobo (South Africa).

They were forced to deregister South Africa’s Tefo Mofokeng after he suffered a long-term injury.
