Orlando Pirates Show Interest in Zimbabwean Striker Washington Navaya
Zimbabwean striker Washington Navaya has reportedly attracted interest from South Africa’s football giants Orlando Pirates.
Navaya, currently in camp with the Warriors ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, is focusing on the tournament, which has temporarily delayed any potential transfer negotiations.

Interest From Local and Regional Clubs
According to Gilbert Sengwe, the player’s agent several Zimbabwean clubs have enquired about Navaya, while at least one of South Africa’s “Big Three” has also shown interest.
Gilbert Sengwe told Soccer Laduma that while several clubs have shown interest in the striker, any transfer discussions will only be finalised once he returns from AFCON.
“There is some interest from several clubs… now the issue is that the boy is concentrating, and the coach will not allow him to leave camp. Once he comes back from AFCON, then we can finalise everything.”
Navaya: Zimbabwe’s Star on the Rise
Navaya, recently crowned Zimbabwe Soccer Star of the Year, has been a standout for the Warriors.
He is currently in a group with South Africa, Angola, and Egypt at AFCON 2025. Scouts from multiple clubs have reportedly been monitoring his performances, highlighting his potential as a key addition to any squad.
Orlando Pirates’ History of Zimbabwean Targets
This is not the first time the Buccaneers have shown interest in Zimbabwean forwards.
Last year, Orlando Pirates reportedly monitored Daniel Msendami, currently with Marumo Gallants, following his performances in the CAF Champions League and domestic competitions.
Sources close to the club indicate that the Pirates’ technical team has been impressed by Msendami’s pace, skill, and ability to perform in high-pressure matches. While inquiries have been made, it remains unclear whether the club intends to sign him in the January transfer window or at the end of the season.
“The good thing is he is still young and can join the club at any time if they still need him. For now, it has just been inquiries about the player,” a source said.
