Sharks management set for shake-up

Major changes to the Sharks management team are expected this week.

The Durban-based franchise ended their four-match winless run in the URC with a 29-19 victory against the bottom-placed Scarlets at Kings Park on Saturday, but the improvement was marginal and head coach John Plumtree remains under pressure.

“We just don’t look like a side that’s really clicking yet,” admitted Plumtree, who will be without his Springboks for their next URC match against Connacht in Galway on 29 November – the same day as South Africa play Wales in Cardiff.

PLUM: Sharks not clicking yet

However, SuperSport.com reports that bigger developments are taking place behind the scenes, with Sharks management members having reportedly been instructed to provide written explanations of their roles at the union.

Director of rugby Neil Powell informed the coaching group last week that changes would be made to the management team.

It remains to be seen whether this shake-up will affect Plumtree directly, involve assistant coaches, or lead to a wider structural revamp – including possible adjustments to Powell’s role and the contracting department.
