ZNSPCA Promises US$1 000 Reward Over Puppy Killing
The Zimbabwe National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ZNSPCA) has launched a manhunt for a suspect filmed mutilating and killing a puppy in what appeared to be a ritual. The organisation has offered a reward of US$1 000 (about R18 000) for information leading to the arrest of those involved.
Public outcry over disturbing footage
According to a statement posted by the ZNSPCA on 3 November 2025, the organisation said it had been “flooded with reports and public outcry following the circulation of deeply disturbing footage showing this individual brutally mutilating and killing a puppy as part of a so-called ritual.”
The clip reportedly shows the man, alongside others, using the animal’s blood in what they claimed was a “healing” ceremony.
ZNSPCA described the act as “barbaric and inhumane”, urging the public to help identify the suspect.
“As the national authority responsible for enforcing animal welfare law, ZNSPCA is outraged and horrified by this barbaric act of cruelty,” the statement read.
“We are committed to using every legal and investigative means available to ensure that this individual and any accomplices are identified, arrested, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Reward for information
The ZNSPCA has pledged a US$1 000 (R18 000) reward to anyone who provides information leading to the suspect’s arrest. The society encouraged the public to contact its emergency numbers or report to the nearest police station.
Senior Inspector Delta Chitakunye, who heads investigations and prosecutions, can be contacted directly at +263 78 797 5900.
Members of the public can also reach the ZNSPCA through its 24-hour emergency line +263 772 696 311, toll-free number 0800 4370, or via email at znspcahq@zol.co.zw.
“This level of cruelty cannot go unpunished,” ZNSPCA added.
“We rely on the public’s cooperation to bring the perpetrators to justice and to protect other animals from similar harm.”
The organisation reminded Zimbabweans that animal cruelty is a criminal offence under local law and offenders face severe penalties upon conviction.
