Strauss bullish over home-heavy finish

Vodacom Bulls president Willem Strauss believes the pieces are finally falling into place for Johan Ackermann’s men as they enter the decisive phase of their season.

In a WhatsApp broadcast following a promising run of results, Strauss highlighted the significance of the team’s upcoming fixture list, and the timing of their return to form.

With eight URC matches still to play, the Bulls are set to enjoy a favourable run-in, hosting six of those encounters at Loftus Versveld, with only two away fixtures remaining in Wales.

STATE OF THE URC: Sharks, Bulls go into break on high

Strauss acknowledged that the early-season fixture list had presented challenges.

“The scheduling, due to amongst others the December holiday crowds, will never favour us in the first half of the season,” Strauss said.

But he believes the balance has now shifted firmly in the Bulls’ favour.

“Now we have the advantage and hitting form at the same time, as well as a number of injured stars returning.”

That momentum has already been reflected in results. The Bulls edged their way into the Investec Champions Cup round of 16 and remain firmly in the hunt for URC playoff qualification – a position that looked far less certain earlier in the campaign.

ACKERS: Bulls got balance right

Strauss made it clear that the Bulls intend to be a very different proposition when the URC resumes in a few weeks.

“Whoever faces this Vodacom Bulls team in the playoffs can look forward to a massive challenge.”
