The 30 richest people on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange

South Africa’s Johannesburg Stock Exchange remains the continent’s heavyweight venue for public capital. Founded in 1887 and now based in Sandton, the JSE is one of Africa’s most important stock markets by market value and liquidity, and the primary listing venue for many of the region’s biggest blue chips.

The past year has been kind to equity holders. The JSE’s headline indices have rallied strongly over the last 12 months, lifting the paper wealth of founders, executives, and long term blockholders who sit on the share registers of banks, insurers, retailers, telecoms, and mining companies.

This is Billionaires.Africa’s 2026 ranking of the richest investors on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, measured by the estimated market value of their publicly listed equity stakes and expressed in US dollars.

Method note: Values are estimates based on early February 2026 market prices and market capitalizations, translated from rand into dollars using a prevailing spot reference rate.
