After Kaizer Chiefs joined worldwide transfer platform TransferRoom to enhance their scouting network, Soccer Laduma looks back on ten foreign signings that did not live up to expectations in the last ten years at Amakhosi.
Christian Saile
Saile showed promise in his first six months after he was signed in January 2019 from Zambian side Nchanga Rangers. However, the Democratic Republic of Congo striker could not settle in any position, scoring seven goals in 57 games.
Kearyn Baccus
Upon his arrival in July 2019 from Australian side Melbourne City, Baccus was compared to Doctor Khumalo before appearing officially but he flattered to deceive with two goals in 52 appearances.
Lazarous Kambole
Kambole joined Chiefs in July 2019 from Zambian club Zesco United, with high expectations for goals, after his exploits in the CAF Champions League. The Zambian striker, however, only managed two goals in 46 matches.
Gustavo Paez
Paez, who arrived at Amakhosi in January 2017 with experience from countries such as Spain and Italy ultimately did not live up to expectations, although he scored ten goals in 53 games for the Soweto giants.
Camaldine Abraw
Having joined Free State Stars with experience from France, it was expected that Abraw would be a sensation at Chiefs after he joined in 2015. The Togolese striker, however, was limited to six goals in 28 games.
Edmore Chirambadare
Chirambadare was part of the “buy one, get one free” banter signings from Zimbabwe and initially looked promising but could only score once in 27 outings.
Godfrey Walusimbi
Chiefs were looking to solve their left-back issue when they signed Walusimbi from Kenyan side Gor Mahia in August 2018. However, the Ugandan could not settle and only played 17 games before his contract was terminated to make room for a foreign slot.
Michelle Katsvairo
Katsvairo was signed from Zimbabwean club Chicken Inn in 2015 but he did not meet the grade after playing only 14 goals and scored two goals.
James Kotei
Kotei was signed from Simba in July 2019 on a free transfer and was expected to add value in midfield but the Ghanaian left the club six months later without featuring.
Jasond Gonzalez
Chiefs signed Gonzalez in August 2023 on loan from Bolivian club Real Santa Cruz on loan. Although the Colombian striker boasted a huge physical presence, he could not score in his 13 appearances at Amakhosi.
