Two New Arrests Made In The Mutangadura Murder Case

Two more new arrests have been made in connection with the brutal murder of esteemed businessman Joseph Mutangadura. The suspects, Tariro Mutsamanye (34) and Dexter Tinashe Mugaro (31), were brought before Harare regional magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa.

The court was informed that the pair, awaiting trial on multiple armed robbery allegations, are now considered part of the ruthless gang believed responsible for the August homicide. They have been remanded in custody and instructed to seek bail through the High Court due to the severe nature of the charges, which are classified as a third-schedule offence. This development brings the total number of individuals apprehended in this case to four.

The chilling details of the attack, which occurred on the night of 17 August, were recounted from official reports. The ordeal began around 11:15 pm when security guard Bonus Kadiwa heard the family dogs causing a commotion. Upon investigating the disturbance, he was ambushed.

“He was grabbed from behind and threatened with a pistol,” a source close to the investigation confirmed.

The assailants, described as a well-organised group, were armed with an arsenal of weapons, including claw bars, hammers, and firearms. They forcefully escorted Kadiwa around the property before shattering the main door to gain entry into the Mutangadura residence. It was at this point that the guard realised the scale of the invasion, counting seven assailants, all of whom had their identities concealed by balaclavas.

After isolating and guarding Kadiwa, the bulk of the gang proceeded to ransack the home. The situation escalated fatally when they forced their way into the master bedroom. It was there that the criminals confronted Joseph Mutangadura. A single, fatal gunshot was discharged, striking the businessman in the chest and claiming his life instantly. In a statement this week, police authorities announced a critical development in the forensic investigation.

“Police announced this week that they recovered the pistol which was used to kill Mutangadura,” a spokesperson stated, “The same firearm was used to kill a police officer in Sanyati at the weekend.”
