JUBA – Western Bahr El Ghazal and Unity States have emerged as the dominant performers in the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations released today, taking the lion’s share of top positions among the highest-scoring candidates nationwide.
Data released by the Ministry of General Education and Instruction and the South Sudan National Examinations Council shows that students from the two regions filled most of the 37 slots of candidates who scored between 450 and 457 marks.
The highest score of 457 marks was shared by two female candidates from Western Bahr el Ghazal State — Adhel Mabior Madut and Awien Biet Giirwel, both from Alel-Chok Complex Primary School. Their performance places the school among the most outstanding institutions in the country in last year’s examinations.
Another Western Bahr El Ghazal candidate, Rose Tartizio Fangrazio, also from Alel-Chok Complex Primary School, secured the second position with 456 marks, tying with Simon Sabir Mario, a male candidate from the same school.
Alel-Chok Complex Primary School’s strong showing continued throughout the ranking, with several of its pupils appearing among the highest performers, highlighting the institution’s consistent academic performance.
Unity State also posted impressive results, with multiple candidates appearing among the top scorers. Schools such as Liberty Primary School, Mary John Primary School, and Kuacjok Primary School featured prominently in the ranking list.
Liberty Primary School alone produced several candidates who scored between 450 and 452 marks, further cementing Unity State’s position among the country’s leading performers in primary education.
Other states and administrative areas represented among the top candidates include Central Equatoria State, Jonglei State, and Warrap State, though with fewer entries compared to Western Bahr el Ghazal and Unity.
The list of the best female candidates also reflects the strong performance of Western Bahr el Ghazal. The top three positions were all secured by girls from the state, with Adhel Mabior Madut and Awien Biet Giirwel tying for first place, followed by Rose Tartizio Fangrazio in second place.
Additional high-performing female candidates came from Central Equatoria and Unity states, demonstrating a growing presence of girls among the country’s top academic achievers.
The 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations were sat by more than 84,000 candidates across South Sudan, marking one of the largest cohorts to complete the national primary assessment in recent years.
