Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Khalil Ben Youssef has applauded goalkeeper and captain Brandon Petersen for his continued consistency and leadership following Amakhosi’s hard-fought 1-0 Betway Premiership victory over Durban City at the Moses Mabhida Stadium last night.
The win, secured through a strike towards the end of the match by Flavio da Silva, extended Petersen’s tally to nine clean sheets across all competitions, underlining his resurgence under Ben Youssef and co-coach Cedric Kaze since being handed the captain’s armband.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, the tactician was full of praise for the 31-year-old shot-stopper and hinted that a national team comeback could be on the horizon.
“I think every game we say congratulations for Petersen,” said Ben Youssef, speaking to journalists.

“Congratulations also for the goalkeeper coach Ilyes (Mzoughi) for the job he’s doing with him. The target of Petersen is to come back to Bafana Bafana, to be part of the national team. That’s his target in his life and we are following him. I think he needs to continue to work to put pressure on the coach of the national team. Why not be part of the squad in AFCON?”
Petersen’s recent form has been an inspiration in an improving season for the Soweto giants, with his leadership and vocal presence at the back being a motivation for the rest of the squad.
