Women-Led BSports Agency Uses Platform to Fight GBV and Empower South African Sportswomen

Bokamoso Sports Agency (BSports) has become a leading sports organisation in South Africa as the trailblazing company led by Jessica Nkomo. They represent among South Africa’s top female footballers, helping sportswomen in the sponsorship space, and are more than playing their part in creating gender parity in sport.

With this in mind, BSports has also thrown their support behind the victims of Gender Based Violence and shared a post on social media ahead of the November 21st National Shutdown. Women are being urged to down tools in all aspects of their work and daily life to show the integral role they play in society.

Thato Molaba, Team Support Specialist at BSports, shared some time with gsport where she highlighted how, as a female-run agency, it is important to show unity with women and children who are enduring abuse.

She expressed how important it is that the sportswomen they represent have a safe space, should they ever find themselves in a situation where they are being abused. She added that this goes beyond the players they represent and their aim is to ensure all women feel protected.

As a leading sports agency that is led by women, how important is it for you to show your solidarity?

As a women-led sports agency, showing solidarity isn’t just important, it’s deeply personal. We know that so many cases go unspoken and unheard in the sports world, and that silence. It can be incredibly isolating.

When BSports stands openly with women, we want every athlete and client to feel that they are not alone, that they are genuinely supported, and that their experiences matter. For us, solidarity is an act of care, courage, and responsibility. It’s our way of saying: ‘We see you, we believe you, and we will stand with you every step of the way.’

With your solidarity, how are you hoping to not just bring awareness but highlight the scourges of GBV that are in this country?

Our goal isn’t only to raise awareness, it’s to shine a light on the reality of gender-based violence in South Africa and actively help those who are affected. There are many resources and support systems in this country, but far too many people don’t know they exist or don’t know how to access them. By highlighting these resources and making that access simpler and more direct, we hope to bridge a critical gap. Sometimes, a lack of awareness or support isn’t just a setback; it can be the difference between safety and danger, or even life and death.

“At BSports, we want to ensure that no woman feels lost, unsupported, or unaware of where to turn for help.”

BSports Team Support Specialist, Thato Molaba

“It’s important for women to stand together in the fight against GBV because this is an issue that impacts us most directly and most deeply,” says Molaba. “We understand the fear, the silence, and the vulnerability that so many women live with, and that’s why we cannot afford to step back.”

“This is a fight we must champion, not only for ourselves, but for every woman who feels unheard or unprotected. When we show support, and that includes every member of our team at BSports.”

In addition to empowering our staff to assist and direct players to the right resources, we also have an in-house counsellor who is trained to handle these deeply sensitive matters with care and confidentiality. Our players deserve a safe space, one where they are heard, believed, and guided toward the help they need.

At BSports, we want them to know that they never have to face these challenges alone; for each other, we create strength, unity, and change. Our collective voice is one of the most powerful tools we have, and we need to use it to push back against violence in every form.

How do you feel sport can be a catalyst for positive change in the lives of women who may have been abused?

Sport has the power to be a catalyst for incredible positive change, especially for women who have experienced abuse. For some, sport can be a literal way out of an abusive environment, a pathway to independence, opportunity, and safety. For others, it becomes a space where they can reclaim their strength, rebuild their confidence, and rediscover their self-belief.

Sport offers community, structure, and hope. It can help women heal, cope, and reconnect with a version of themselves that may have been dimmed by trauma. In so many ways, sport is not just a game; it’s a lifeline, a form of empowerment, and a reminder that every woman deserves to feel supported, strong, and free.

As an agency that represents many of the top female football players in the country, how important is it to ensure your players know that they should find themselves being abused, and they are able to come to you for help?

It is absolutely essential for us that every female player we represent knows she can come to us if she ever finds herself in an abusive or compromising situation. Our aim goes beyond sports; we want every woman to feel safe, supported, and confident that help is within reach. We believe that anyone in a woman’s community should be able to guide her to safety and support, and that includes every member of our team at BSports.

In addition to empowering our staff to assist and direct players to the right resources, we also have an in-house counsellor who is trained to handle these deeply sensitive matters with care and confidentiality.

Our players deserve a safe space, one where they are heard, believed, and guided toward the help they need. At BSports, we want them to know that they never have to face these challenges alone.

Will you be part of any initiatives or hosting any during the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign?

We are still finalising our plans for the 16 Days of Activism campaign, but our commitment remains clear. One of our core focuses will always be raising awareness around the realities of violence against women and children, and ensuring that people know what resources are available to them.

Whether through outreach, education, or partnerships, our priority is to make sure that information and support are accessible. Even as our plans take shape, our mission stays the same: to use our platform to inform, uplift, and empower those who need it most.

Why is it important as women that we show our full support in the GBV fight?

It’s important for women to stand together in the fight against GBV because this is an issue that impacts us most directly and most deeply. We understand the fear, the silence, and the vulnerability that so many women live with, and that’s why we cannot afford to step back.

This is a fight we must champion, not only for ourselves, but for every woman who feels unheard or unprotected. When we show up for each other, we create strength, unity, and change. Our collective voice is one of the most powerful tools we have, and we need to use it to push back against violence in every form.

Why do you feel it is important for companies in South Africa to throw their support in the fight to end GBV?

It’s important for companies in South Africa to stand firmly in the fight against GBV because there is undeniable power in numbers. Organisations hold influence, resources, and visibility, and when they use that power to support this cause, it sends a strong message. It tells victims that they are not alone and that there are institutions willing to stand beside them.

And it tells perpetrators that abusive behaviour will not be ignored, excused, or tolerated.

When companies take a clear stance, they help shift culture, drive accountability, and create safer environments both inside and outside the workplace. Their support can spark real, meaningful change, and that’s why their involvement matters.

What is your message as BSports to the women and children who have been affected by GBV?

Our message to every woman and child affected by GBV is this: You are not alone. There is strength in community, and there is power in leaning on the people who are willing to support you.

At BSports, we want you to know that there are individuals and organisations who see you, who believe you, and who are ready to stand with you. Healing is not easy, but you never have to walk that journey by yourself. There is hope, there is help, and there is a community that cares.
